Budding bards in Stone are being urged to enter a poetry competition to be in with a chance of scooping a top prize of £1,000.
The competition, which is now in its third year, has been organised by Staffordshire Library Service and funded by Stafford District Arts Council.
Stafford Poetry Competition is open to anyone, of any age, from anywhere, and potential entrants have until 28th February 2011 to submit a poem of no more than 40 lines for the consideration of the judge, prize-winning poet Michael Hulse.
The winning poet will receive a prize of £1000 and five runners-up will receive £50 each.
Poems can be written on any subject but this year, to celebrate the Staffordshire Hoard, the Anglo-Saxon treasure rediscovered two years ago, there will be an additional prize of £250 for the best poem, on any subject, with the title “Found”.
All entries to Stafford Poetry Competition should be posted to Stafford Poetry Competition, Shire Hall Library, Market Street, Stafford ST16 2LQ. Entries must also be accompanied by a cover sheet including the name and address of the entrant and the title(s) of the poem(s) entered, as well as a cheque for £4 made payable to Staffordshire County Council (plus £3 each for any extra poems).
