Stone Town Council is celebrating Saint George’s Day by bringing medieval knights into the town on Saturday 21st April 2018
Saint George is the patron saint of England in a tradition established in the Tudor period, based on the saint’s popularity during the times of the Crusades and the Hundred Years’ War.
In recognition of the day, Stone Town Council are hosting a medieval event in the town.
The event will start at 12:00pm when Saint George will lead the parade on horseback from the top of the High Street to the Market Square. Once in the Market Square, the Black Knights will fight Saint George and his men in front of the assembled crowd.
There will be an opportunity to experience wearing medieval armour and a children’s medieval fancy dress competition themed on knights, damsels and dragons.
In addition to the event there will also be a craft market at the lower end of the High Street and the usual town market at the upper end.
Councillor Jill Hood, Vice Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said:
“Come along to the Market Square and cheer on your favourites in the battle between Saint George and the Black Knights”.
