Match report – Stone Old Alleynians vs Abbey Hulton Utd

Wednesday 12th December 2018, Stone Old Alleynians put on another show of excellent football to defeat present league leaders, Abbey Hulton Utd at Wellbeing Park.

The star man under the lights was striker/midfielder, Sam Wilson who scored 5 goals. With the Old Boys on the match even at the start, it took Wilson 17mins to open the scoring. Jack Tomlinson played a reverse pass with Wilson, who beat Jacob Holding, the visitors keeper from a narrow angle.

Nine minutes later Wilson doubled the lead. Dave Ablewhite fed Michael Williams, on the right, Williams, beating his man on goal-line, pulled the ball back for Wilson to ram home. Abbey had a good chance to pull one back after a poor pass by Stone, ended with Michael Lennon free on goal, but Adam Alcock was quick off his line to block the shot and the danger was cleared. Also Josh Beaumont had a good shot tipped over the top by Alcock

Any hopes of a quick come back by United were soon extinguished by skipper Danny Heard. Up from centre back for a corner, he beat his man from Jimmy Lee’s cross and also Holding on 47mins. Within 4mins the Alleynians had virtually sealed the win with Lee, on the left, whipping in a cross, Ablewhite sold a dummy and Wilson did the rest for his hat-trick. However Wilson wasn’t finished and 2mins later he scored again. Lee, for his 3rd assist, took a corner, Wilson’s flick was blocked but he managed to put the rebound through the keeper’s legs. Abbey were now rarely threatening the home goal and the hosts continued pressing the visiting defence, on 70min Wilson got his 5th and Old Alleynians 6th, when he nodded into an empty net, after Holding had saved well from Williams. There was still time for Luke Askey to head home a Lee cross but he was narrowly ruled offside.

The Old Alleynians have now scored 24 goals in their last 5 home games.
