A new mother and daughter run florist is opening on Stone High Street this week.
Mum’s Flower Shop will open on Friday 15 May, with an opening event taking place on Friday and Saturday 15 and 16 May.
The business is being launched by Carol and Holly Wynne, with Carol bringing 25 years of floristry experience to the new shop.
Holly told A Little Bit of Stone that the shop has grown from a long held family idea into a new chapter for both of them.
Holly said
“My mum has been a florist for 25 years. She has had her own shop before but unfortunately the recession came and she had to close. She has worked for others ever since, and she’s 62 now and always jokes about never being able to retire.
“I just wanted to make sure her last 10 working years were on her terms and that she had the space to be as creative as she wanted to be, but mainly that she could retire having spent her last few working years doing what she loved and doing it with me.”
Holly said the idea of opening a flower shop in Stone had been discussed for several years, after she previously worked in the town and later moved here.
She said
“I have always been drawn to Stone. I used to work at a dentist here years ago and I met my fiancé here, eventually moving to Stone.
“My mum would visit me and say ‘I wish I lived here, it would be great place for a flower shop’.”
Mum’s Flower Shop will offer flowers for all occasions, including weddings and sympathy flowers, as well as house plants, gifts, lifestyle products from independent businesses, artisan bakes and cakes.
The business also plans to run floristry workshops, wellness collaboration events and a book club in the future.
Holly said
“Mum’s is more than just a flower shop. It’s that feeling of great Saturday, shopping, flowers, a sweet treat, community, connection, creativity… it is going to become what I hope will be a very special place.”
For the opening weekend, customers will be able to enjoy drinks, nibbles and free gifts with purchases. Free artisan bakes and cakes will also be available as the business shortlists items for the shop.
Mum’s Flower Shop will be open from 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday and from 9am to 3pm on Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
You’ll find Mum’s Flower Shop between Rogue Boutique and Ten Green Bottles – on Stone High Street.
