Police are appealing for witnesses after two separate fires were deliberately started on farmland in Stone.
The incidents happened on land off Redhill Road and Coppice Road between 9 and 12 August, with pieces of wood set alight before the fire spread onto surrounding farmland.
Staffordshire Police said the land backs onto residential properties, the railway line and fields used to house livestock, creating a significant risk to people, property and animals.
Police said
“With the current period of extremely high temperatures and dry conditions, even a small flame can quickly develop into a serious incident.
“What may seem like a harmless fire can have devastating consequences for the countryside, wildlife, farmers and the wider community.”
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or saw vehicles entering or leaving the location, to come forward.
Parents and guardians are also being encouraged to speak with children about the dangers of deliberately starting fires and the impact they can have on farmland, wildlife, property and local communities.
