Stone hit by flooding… again

Meaford Road this morning with the A34 in the background

The heavy rain on Friday has resulted in more flooding in Stone, with three drivers having to be rescued from their vehicles after they got stuck in floodwaters at Meaford.

Staffordshire Police closed the A34 southbound from the Darlaston roundabout just before midnight last night and Meaford Road is also closed. The A34 southbound remains closed until just after 3pm.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service rescued three drivers overnight, including a taxi driver, who ignored the ‘Road Closed’ signs. They tweeted in the early hours of this morning: “If you saw a sign saying Road Closed due to Flooding, would you ignore it? 1 Taxi driver didn’t think it applied to him!”

A specialist boat unit had to be brought in to rescue one female driver.

As well as the flooding at Meaford, there is other isolated flooding across the town, including the back road from Cold Norton to Yarnfield and at Yarlet.

The flooding comes just three weeks after the last incidents, when Meaford particularly was badly hit.

As always, you can find the latest updates on the flooding on A Little Bit of Stone’s Twitter and Facebook streams (no pun intended!).
