Young readers in Stone are being invited to take part in a free summer challenge combining books, stories and music.

The ‘Read to the Beat’ Summer Reading Challenge is now under way at Stone Library and other libraries across Staffordshire, encouraging children to continue reading throughout the school holidays.
This year’s musical theme explores how stories and sound can spark imagination, build confidence and bring people together.
Children can choose novels, non-fiction, audiobooks or eBooks, with every title counting towards the challenge as long as it is borrowed through Staffordshire Libraries.
The challenge runs until Monday 14 September and registration is free at Stone Library.
It has been designed mainly for children aged four to 11, although readers of all ages can take part.
Hayley Coles, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council, said
“The Summer Reading Challenge continues to play an important role in supporting children’s learning outside the classroom over the summer holiday.
“This year’s ‘Read to the Beat’ theme offers a fun and imaginative way to connect books with music, helping children stay motivated to read regularly. By taking part, they can discover new interests and keep their reading skills strong ahead of the new school year.
“Our libraries are community hubs and welcoming spaces, providing free access to resources, and engaging activities that families can enjoy together. I’d definitely encourage families to visit their local library and sign up for the challenge.”
Libraries across Staffordshire will also host activities inspired by music, rhythm and performance, including storytelling sessions, creative workshops and hands-on events. Families should check with Stone Library for details of activities taking place locally.
The Summer Reading Challenge is delivered by The Reading Agency as part of the National Year of Reading.
Children can register for free at Stone Library and begin borrowing their chosen books.
