Stone prepares to come together for Remembrance Sunday

Stone will come together next month for one of the town’s most important annual occasions, as residents of all ages gather for the Remembrance Sunday parade and service.

Each November, the High Street and Granville Square fill with people joining veterans, serving personnel, uniformed groups, civic representatives and local organisations to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.

This year’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations will take place on Sunday 8 November, with the traditional parade through the town centre followed by wreath laying and the service of remembrance at Stone’s war memorial.

For anyone planning to attend, the main gathering begins in the High Street during the morning.

Parade personnel will assemble at the bottom of the High Street from 10.15am, before the parade sets off at 10.30am, led by Stone Scout & Guide Band.

The procession will make its way along the High Street to the war memorial in Granville Square, where Florence Brass Band will play.

Wreath laying begins at 10.45am. Those who are due to lay a wreath are being asked to report to the parade marshal during the assembly in the High Street so they can be briefed on the ceremony. PR Remembrance Sunday 2026

Stone Remembrance Sunday

At 11am, those gathered around the war memorial will observe the two minutes’ silence, followed by the service of remembrance.

After the service in Granville Square, the parade will continue along the High Street and Church Street to the parish Church of St Michael and St Wulfad, again led by Stone Scout & Guide Band.

The parade will disband following the church service.

Remembrance service in Walton

Earlier on Sunday morning, a separate service of remembrance will take place at the Walton war memorial on Whitemill Lane.

People attending are asked to assemble at the memorial by 9.20am, ready for the service to begin at 9.30am.

Stone will also mark Armistice Day

The town’s commemorations will continue on Wednesday 11 November.

A short Armistice Day ceremony will take place at the war memorial in Granville Square at 11am.

Remembrance Sunday regularly brings large numbers of people into the centre of Stone, with generations standing together along the High Street and around the war memorial for the silence and service.

For those wanting to attend this year, arriving in the town centre in good time will give the best opportunity to find a place before the parade reaches Granville Square.
