Tickets are still available if you would like to be part of local history next week: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is being staged by local theatre group Stone Revellers – but this extra-special production will be their last show to be staged at the current venue as the new Crown Wharf Theatre opens this autumn.
For just shy of 25 years, local theatre group Stone Revellers have performed their shows at St Michael’s Hall, on Lichfield Street. Not just a few either, this prolific group have staged 4 high quality shows per year in the venue – transforming it each time from an empty space into a black box theatre space, with a full stage, sound and lighting setup. Audiences even sit on traditional theatre seating, which found its way to Stone after a refit of the Stafford Gatehouse.
Since 1978, the society has cultivated generations of set and prop builders, techies and stage managers – some of whom have gone on to work at the highest level of the theatre industry from the humble beginnings of Stone Revellers. Today, the society goes from strength to strength and future generations can learn and enjoy performing in a purpose built environment.
Chairman Rob Stanway said:
“The whole society is so excited to begin performances at the new theatre. It’s finally happening! Something that many of our members have dreamt about for decades – possibly doubling the size of our audiences. But – this week, we will also be reflecting on 25 wonderful years performing at St Michael’s Hall as we produce one more exceptional play”.
The Revellers won’t be leaving the hall behind entirely though, as they will continue to rehearse and plan future shows there.
Rob continued: “You’ll still find us at the hall 3 times a week and after 7 years of fundraising for a new theatre in the town, we’re going to be supporting the hall with fundraising efforts to ensure it stays our home for the next 25 years.
“There is something really special about transforming a space into a theatre. The creativity and ingenuity that it requires and the many options it provides. It’s a really unique setup and I would encourage everyone to buy a ticket and come to see it for themselves… or one last time!”.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is the best selling crime novel of all time. A whodunit thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
“You will not be disappointed. There are actually two endings to this play, which the cast will alternate – so some audience members may see it twice! Tickets are still available, and you can buy them on our website at stonerevellers.org.uk”.
