The fire and rescue service is urging people in Stone to register electrical appliances on a new website after a faulty dishwasher caused a kitchen blaze in Cannock.

Crews from Cannock and Chase Terrace used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to tackle the fire at a house on Cuckoo Close on 18th February. An investigation found that the Hotpoint dishwasher – model FDL 570 G – had been recalled by the manufacturer.

Carmel Warren, Prevention Manager for the west of the county, said: “A fire investigation found that the kitchen blaze was caused by a Hotpoint dishwasher which was part of a product recall. We would urge people to visit www.registermyappliance.org.uk to register any electrical items purchased within the past 12 years if they have not already done so. This will allow the manufacturer to contact you should a fault occur.

“If you receive a letter and your appliance matches the product recall, unplug it and don’t use it again until it has been checked or the manufacturer has advised you that it is safe to do so. In the majority of cases, a free, simple, repair can be carried out in the home.

“The website also allows manufacturers to publish the details of any domestic appliances that have a fault as well as instructions of what to do and who to inform if you have that particular product. It only takes a few minutes to check the website or to register your electrical goods but it could end up saving your life.”
