Plans for Stone’s Bonfire and Firework display have gone up in flames as the Stone Town Bonfire and Fireworks Committee confirms the 2021 event is cancelled.
Each year the Stone Town Bonfire and Fireworks Committee, a non-political group that put on the event, take over Westbridge Park with a pallet wood bonfire, firework display and assorted entertainment.
In 2020 the event was cancelled and A Little Bit of Stone have been advised that the planned 2021 isn’t going to be going ahead with the Stone Town Bonfire and Fireworks committee reluctantly deciding that they are unable to organise the event this year.
A spokesperson for the committee told A LIttle Bit of Stone:
“Whilst legal Covid restrictions have been lifted, we are still under a duty of care to organise a safe event for spectators.
It is considered that it would be impossible to arrange for appropriate social distancing for what is a very popular and heavily attended event.”

Yes well, I agree with the above comment.
There was no.issues with other busy events in Stone, where there has been no supervision and social distance rules!,.
It’s more likely about ‘politics’ or committee cannot be bothered with it!.
Other places near Stone are goi g ahead with fireworks and bonfire displays..
Shame in you Stone Bonfire Commitee.!

Agree with Michele’s post. I don’t believe any event organiser for events such as this can guarantee or organise with social distancing in mind. The Covid-19 pandemic is still very much with us but it’s now for people to make their own judgement depending on their attitude to risk and personal circumstances. Personally I still don’t feel comfortable in crowded situations where I can’t socially distance, but that’s my personal choice. Life has to go on, agree I don’t see how the fireworks event is any different from the food festival or Christmas light switch on? Shame for the town as its a key event.

Well if they are unable to have the bonfire and fireworks event because of social distancing, then why did the food and drinks event take place and I could not see social distancing taking place at that event so what’s any difference.
