Stone Services at Darlaston has held onto the cheapest standard petrol price in A Little Bit of Stone’s 12 mile fuel search, despite increasing its price by 1p during the past week.

At the end of Wednesday 7 October, standard E10 petrol at Darlaston was 168.9p a litre.
Three other Stone forecourts, Morrisons, Fairway Esso and Fillybrook BP, were all at 169.9p, meaning four of the town’s five stations were within 1p of each other.
For diesel drivers, Stone remains more expensive than the cheapest options elsewhere in our search area, although four of the five local forecourts are now charging exactly the same price.
We have also expanded our fuel tracker this week to include Super Unleaded and Premium Diesel, giving us our first look at how the higher grades compare around Stone.
Our tracker checks for price changes every 30 minutes, with historical prices also stored for each of Stone’s filling stations.

| Station | Price | Weekly change |
|---|---|---|
| Stone Services, Darlaston | 168.9p | Up 1p |

There was relatively little movement during the week.
Darlaston increased its petrol from 167.9p to 168.9p on Thursday 1 October.
Walton Shell moved in the opposite direction on the same day, reducing its standard petrol from 174.9p to 173.9p.
Prices at Morrisons, Fairway and Fillybrook remained unchanged at 169.9p throughout the period.
Those changes have narrowed the difference between Stone’s cheapest and most expensive standard petrol from 7p last week to 5p this week.
For 55 litres, Darlaston’s 168.9p price works out at around £92.90, compared with £95.65 at Walton Shell, a difference of £2.75.
Darlaston remains cheapest for petrol
Despite its 1p increase, Darlaston was still the cheapest current standard petrol price anywhere within our 12 mile search at the end of Wednesday.
The next lowest price was 169.9p, including Morrisons, Fairway and Fillybrook in Stone, as well as Asda Trent Express.
That leaves Darlaston just 1p a litre ahead, equivalent to 55p on 55 litres.
Its advantage has therefore narrowed since last week, but motorists looking purely at the pump price still do not need to leave Stone to find the cheapest standard petrol within the area we monitor.

| Station | Price | Weekly change |
|---|---|---|
| Stone Services, Darlaston | 197.9p | Up 2p |
| Morrisons | 197.9p | Unchanged |

It began the reporting period at 195.9p, increased to 196.9p on Thursday and then rose again to 197.9p on Friday.
That leaves it level with Morrisons, Fairway and Fillybrook.
Walton Shell is just 1p higher at 198.9p.
The difference between Stone’s cheapest and most expensive standard diesel is therefore only 1p a litre, equivalent to 55p on 55 litres.
Diesel remains cheaper outside Stone
There are still larger potential savings for diesel drivers prepared to travel outside Stone.
Asda Wolstanton ended Wednesday with the cheapest current standard diesel in our wider search at 191.7p a litre.
That is 6.2p below the four Stone forecourts charging 197.9p.
On 55 litres, the difference is around £3.41, although drivers would need to take the cost and distance of travelling to another station into account.
Last week, the gap between Stone’s cheapest diesel and the lowest price elsewhere was 6p a litre, so the difference has widened slightly.
Our first look at Super Unleaded
This week we have started recording Super Unleaded alongside standard E10 petrol.

Walton Shell was the most expensive at 194.9p, creating a 15p difference between the cheapest and most expensive Stone prices.
That is equivalent to £8.25 on 55 litres.
The amount motorists pay to move from standard petrol to Super Unleaded also differs considerably between stations.
At Fillybrook, Super Unleaded was 10p a litre more than its standard petrol.
At Darlaston, Morrisons and Fairway the difference was 20p, while Walton Shell’s premium was 21p.
Across our wider search area, the cheapest current Super Unleaded price at the end of Wednesday was 175.9p at Shirleys Transport in Cellarhead.

Premium Diesel prices in Stone
We have also begun tracking Premium Diesel.
Current prices were available for three of Stone’s five forecourts at the end of Wednesday.
<table> <tr><th>Station</th><th>Premium Diesel</th></tr> <tr><td>Fillybrook, Newcastle Road BP</td><td>209.9p</td></tr> <tr><td>Stone Services, Darlaston</td><td>217.9p</td></tr> <tr><td>A34 Walton roundabout Shell</td><td>224.9p</td></tr> <tr><td>Morrisons</td><td>No current price available</td></tr> <tr><td>Fairway Esso</td><td>No current price available</td></tr> </table>
Among those with a current price available, Fillybrook was again the cheapest at 209.9p.
Walton Shell was 224.9p, producing the same 15p difference seen with Super Unleaded.
On 55 litres, that is a difference of £8.25.
The cheapest current Premium Diesel we found across the wider search area was 204.9p at Morrisons Goose Street in Newcastle under Lyme.
That was 5p below Fillybrook, equivalent to £2.75 on 55 litres.
As this is our first week recording Super Unleaded and Premium Diesel, these figures provide the starting point for future weekly comparisons rather than a week on week movement.
Checking prices throughout the day
Our Stone petrol and diesel tracker checks for price changes every 30 minutes.
Alongside showing the latest available price at each forecourt, we are storing the historical changes for each Stone station. This allows us to see not just which station is cheapest at a particular moment, but when individual prices have moved.
Prices can still change at any time, so those quoted in this weekly analysis represent the position at the end of Wednesday 7 October.
For our wider comparisons, prices which have not been updated for more than 31 days are treated as stale and are excluded when identifying the cheapest current option.
This week’s analysis covers Thursday 1 October to Wednesday 7 October 2026.

Mr Christopher Leasmith
It’s shocking that Morrisons have capitalised & taken advantage of the residents of Stone. They’ve kept the same price as local convenience stations due to their location, personally I take the 10 minute drive to Meir park Tesco with it being 10p cheaper.
