Date set for Jubilee street party

Stone was packed for the royal wedding street party last year

Stone’s Diamond Jubilee street party on the High Street will take place on Sunday 3rd June, starting at 2pm.

The date was set at a meeting of Stone Town Council’s tourism and town promotion committee on Tuesday 20th March. A working group was set up, headed by committee chair Cllr Charlie Hearing, whose members will now get to work on organising the event. They will meet for the first time on Tuesday 27th March.

As well as the street party and the lighting of a Jubilee beacon at St Michael’s Church on 4th June, the committee also heard that a Big Jubilee Lunch is being planned for Stonefield Park over the Jubilee weekend, organised by churches in the town. More details will be revealed later.

Cllr Hearing told the committee that – after the initial meetings of the working group – community groups and organisations would be invited to get involved. She said: “The event will be bigger and better with the involvement of the local community.”
