Great War centenary plaque proudly in place

plaque

The plaque that was produced to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War in August took pride of place in Granville Square in time for the Remembrance Sunday service.

The plaque was originally going to be placed in Stonefield Park, where the town’s First World War centenary service took place in the summer (photos and video from that day are HERE).

But a petition organised by Stone Historical Society and signed by hundreds of people, calling for the plaque to be installed in the Granville Square garden next to the war memorial, was successful. Members of Stone Town Council’s general purposes committee agreed to have the plaque in Granville Square at their meeting on 6th November.
