Mike Williamson will be Stone town mayor for the 2015/16 municipal year.
The Conservative councillor, pictured left, received the chains of office at a council meeting last week, with Stone Independents councillor Jim Davies becoming deputy. Previous mayor Cathy Collier handed over the chains after a busy year in office in which she raised over £3,000 for her chosen charities: Guide Dogs for the Blind, Stone Guides and Scouts, Stone Stroke Club and Stone Alzeimer’s Drop-in.
Our new mayor was born in Stoke-on-Trent and has lived in Walton for over 40 years, with his two children attending local schools. He is chairman of Stone First Responders and a director of the Tilling Drive Allotments community interest company (CIC).
Following the town council elections on 7th May, new chairs and deputies were elected to two committees. Rob Kenney (Stone Independents) will chair the General Purposes Committee, with Conservative Geoff Collier as deputy. Jill PIggott (Conservative) will chair the planning committee, with Stone Independent Grahame Neagus as deputy.
The chairs of a number of sub-committees will be decided at a meeting of the General Purposes Committee tonight (Tuesday 19th May).
Following the town council elections, there are nine Conservative members of the town council and nine Stone Independents. More on that HERE.
