Police appeal after attempted burglary and car theft in Barlaston

Staffordshire Police are appealing for information after two residential properties were targeted in Barlaston in the early hours of Sunday 19 April.

Two Staffordshire Police officers in uniform, one facing away wearing a vest marked "POLICE", and the other slightly out of focus in the background beside a patrol car.

The first incident happened on Lakewood Drive, on the Barlaston Park estate, at around 1.15am. Police said two men approached a property and tried the front door in a suspected attempt to gain entry.

One of the men seen on CCTV was described as wearing a light coloured zip up top with a small black emblem on the left chest, black trainers with light coloured laces, and light or grey coloured bottoms.

The second was described as wearing a long sleeved top, slightly darker in colour, light coloured trainers with black soles, and light or grey coloured bottoms.

A second incident happened on Flaxman Close between 11.30pm on Saturday 18 April and 2.30am on Sunday 19 April.

Police said unknown offenders gained entry to the property, took the keys to a white Volkswagen Tiguan, registration year 62, and then stole the vehicle from the driveway.

At this stage, officers believe the two incidents may be linked.

Residents are being asked to check any CCTV or doorbell footage recorded between 11.30pm on Saturday 18 April and 2.30am on Sunday 19 April in the following areas:

Flaxman Close, Ivyhouse Drive, Lime Grove, Bell Lane, Wedgwood Lane, Hackwood Close, Etruscan Walk, Portland Place, Jasper Close, Ramsey Close, Henley Close, and Lakewood Drive.

Police are also asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the wider Barlaston area during those hours to get in touch.
