Stone Optometrist Peter Bowers has retired after almost four decades of service to the local community.
Peter Bowers Optometrist has been trading on the Stone High Street for 33 years. With the roots of the family business dating back to the 1930s.
Well-wishes have been paid to Peter Bowers, who has hung up his ophthalmoscope after 39 years serving several generations of patients in his optics career.
Peter opened Peter Bowers Optometrist on Stone High Street in November 1985, following in the footsteps of his parents, both of whom were optometrists and owned independent practices in Stone and Clayton.
The team at Peter Bowers Optometrist have paid tribute to his work, while looking ahead to the exciting future of the practice.
Partner and Dispensing Optician Alison Woodcock said:
“I’m sure I speak for my fellow team members, as well as the long list of patients that Peter has served over the decades, in wishing him the best of luck in his retirement.
“For the 22 years I’ve worked with Peter, his focus has always been on providing a high level of optical care in a business that is an integral part of the local community, and he has certainly achieved that. Through Peter’s guidance, we’ve created a fantastic team that will continue the high standard of care that he has instilled in the practice over the years.”
Kelly Mayers BSc (Hons) Optometrist has joined the team and with over 11 years’ experience in optics, Kelly’s expertise means the practice can now offer an extended range of services, including MECS, Glaucoma Monitoring and Post Cataract Operative Care.
Recently the practice also completed a refurbishment, which included investing in a state-of-the-art ground floor testing room to allow for improved disabled access.
With these extra services and facilities in place as he departs, Peter is confident the practice has been left in capable hands.

“I’ve no doubt that Alison and her team are fully committed to maintaining the high level of optometry, products, and service that we have continued to deliver over the last 33 years. I know they will take great care of our patients, as they have always done their utmost to put them first and I believe we’ve made Peter Bowers Optometrist a professional, welcoming and comfortable place to receive eye care.”

Along with eye care, Peter Bowers Optometrist now also offers hearing care with resident audiologist Aamir Khan BSc (Hons) Audiologist.
