Red EnsignStone Town Council has issued an announcement that they will be flying the Red Ensign flag, the UK Merchant Navy’s official flag, on the town’s High Street flagpole this Saturday in support of Merchant Navy Day.

The flag is being flown on Saturday, the 3rd of September and a notice on the High Street advises that this is….:

“…to honour the men and women who kept our “island nation” afloat during both World Wars, and [to] celebrate our dependence on modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for importing the food, fuel , products and goods we take for granted.”
