Stone’s next Town Mayor has been chosen – and it will be his third time wearing the civic chain of office.
Councillor Philip Leason was nominated for the honour at this month’s Stone Town Council meeting.

He has previously been Stone Town Mayor on two occasions. In 2022-23, he served as Stafford Borough Mayor during an historic year that saw a Platinum Jubilee, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and the coronation of her son, King Charles III.

Councillor Leason thanked fellow town council members for the nomination. He added:

“It’s going to be quite strange because 37 years ago when I was Town Mayor was when Doug James was the Borough Mayor and I will be Town Mayor with his son (Frank James, who will become Borough Mayor next month).”

Councillor Leason is also currently a member of Stafford Borough Council. The keen historian has also been involved with several community groups over the years, including the Rotary Club of Stone and District, and in 2016, he received the MBE for services to Royal Mail and the Stone community.

Congratulations to you both. I am privileged to know them both and I know that neither will let Stone down. I wish you both well on your year in office.
