
The cause of a fire at an elderly couple’s house in Stone is believed to have been a wardrobe light fitting, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have said.
Peter Goffe, aged 86, and his 85-year-old wife Beryl were pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday night. They were found on the landing of their home in Lichfield Road after a fire in a bedroom. More HERE
Joint fire and police investigations have concluded that the fire was caused accidentally and there are no suspicious circumstances. The cause of the fire is believed to be a light fitting in a wardrobe.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service group manager Rob Barber said: “This was a very sad accident involving an elderly couple in their own home and on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Service I would like to express our condolences to Mr and Mrs Goffe’s family and friends.”
