Stone Carnival presents £7,000 to four local organisations

Stone Carnival has presented £7,000 to four local organisations following this year’s fundraising efforts, with additional donations made to two local cadet groups.

The Carnival committee held its annual presentation evening at St Dominic’s Social Club on Saturday 17 October, bringing together representatives from organisations receiving support.

Katharine House Hospice received the largest donation of £3,000, followed by £2,000 for the Green Bus, with Chuckle Productions CIC and Stone Old Alleynians each receiving £1,000.

Where the money is going

Katharine House Hospice received £3,000 towards its specialist care and support for people living with incurable illnesses and their families.

The hospice provides care at home, within the hospice and in the wider community. Community and Corporate Fundraiser Andrea Pugh thanked everyone involved in organising, attending and supporting the Carnival.

The Green Bus received £2,000 to help subsidise its fares.

According to Stone Carnival, the funding is helping the service reduce its mileage charge by 40p per mile from 1 September, despite rising diesel costs. The reduced charge is expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Green Bus organiser Mike Ward MBE and treasurer Stephen Hicks thanked the Carnival committee for its support.

Chuckle Productions CIC received £1,000 to help continue its Complex Needs sessions for children and young people with profound and complex needs.

The sessions use music, movement and sensory activities to encourage communication, build confidence and provide opportunities for children and young people to take part in activities suited to their needs.

Director Philippa Unett thanked the Carnival team and everyone who helped make the event possible.

Stone Old Alleynians received £1,000 towards its disability football provision, both on and off the pitch.

The football club has more than 70 teams and around 1,200 members, offering opportunities for players of different ages and abilities.

Luke Askey and Rob Crawley expressed their thanks for the donation.

Further support for Stone’s cadets

Stone Carnival also confirmed donations to Stone Air Cadets and Army Cadets in recognition of the help they have given the Carnival committee with its activities throughout the year.

The Carnival committee thanked its volunteers, local businesses and Stone residents for their continued support of its fundraising activities.
